The mailman must be annoyed

April 11, 2011

I would be annoyed at me anyway. 😉

I received some sort of package every day (except Sunday, of course) last week. What did I get, you may wonder?

Well … printable place cards from Paper Direct, a gift for Alicia, my veil, a pair of earrings, a pair of pants, and something else … oh, yes, a wedding present from a friend who won’t be able to celebrate with us.

This week is shaping up to be much the same. Today, I got the stamps I ordered from USPS. I’m expecting our table numbers, recipe cards and stickers tomorrow or Wednesday. Thursday I should receive my under-the-dress garments, as well as gifts for Becky and Tania. Next week is more gifts, our invitation envelopes and a potential necklace (but I think I found the one!).

It’s like Christmas, I tell ya.  🙂

My veil couldn’t have arrived at a better time – Saturday afternoon when I just so happened to be spending the day with Becky and Kisha.

I was so excited when I saw the box sitting on the couch. I ripped it open and carefully pulled the tissue paper out of the box. I tucked the veil into the back of my hair and looked at Becky with a silly grin on my face.

“You’re excited, aren’t you,” she said.

Maybe. Just a bit.

I looked from her to the garment bag containing my dress.

“I really want to try it on with my dress,” I said.

“Go for it,” was the reply I got.

I stripped down, stepped into the dress and asked Becky to zip me up. She got it partially up my back and said, “I’m afraid to zip it any further.”

But then Kisha came to the rescue. Having, I guess, zipped many dresses in her lifetime, she grabbed the zipper and gave it a good yank.

It zipped. Woohoo!

I couldn’t breathe – and I suspect was showing more back fat rolls than either one let on 😉 – but you know what my first thought was?

“It’s zipped!! And I won’t have to worry about trying to keep it up all day.”

Priorities, people. Haha!

Since you can’t see the whole shebang, I’ll at least show you a picture of the veil. It’s plain and simple, but it’s exactly what I wanted:

The bridal shower which some super duper people are planning for me is approaching rapidly. Even though I don’t normally do dresses, I feel like I should wear one for this special event. I found this one at Dress Barn yesterday and LOVE it:

They didn’t have my size in the store, so I’m thinking about ordering it online. Now, for you fashion gurus (I’m looking at you Becky and Meg), can I wear a pair of leggings underneath if it’s chilly? Perhaps pair it with ballet flats? Tell me, tell me!

A veil? Why not?

April 3, 2011

I’ve decided to wear a veil. 😉

I thought about it for months and finally realized I wouldn’t feel “bridal” without it. At first I thought I would use Bridesmaid Alicia’s veil as my something “borrowed,” but it doesn’t really match. She did, however, let me take it home to try. Last Sunday I stepped into my dress, pulled my hair back and tucked the veil underneath. I looked in the mirror and smiled. I felt complete … pretty. 🙂 Very odd how a piece of tulle can invoke such feelings.

Since I hadn’t really budgeted for a veil, I wanted it to be as inexpensive as possible.

Enter Occansey Designs.

The Lincoln, Neb., based company got rave reviews on Project Wedding and its products are SO inexpensive (especially when comparing to bridal salons).

But, holy crap, are there a lot of options.

Sheer, standard or extra full?

Standard cut, center-gathered, drop, handkerchief …?

Rhinestone, pencil, satin cord, scalloped edging?

Embellishments or accents?

The list seems positively endless. That’s probably why the site features a “Feeling Overwhelmed?” section.

Why, yes. Yes, I am.

I browsed the Testimonials section until I found a picture that resembled what I want:

It’s a two-tiered veil (24”/27” long), standard fullness, standard cut, champagne satin cord edging. I, however, opted for one tier in diamond white, 29″ long, sheer fullness, standard cut, and matching pencil edging.

(Minus the pencil edge)

It’s already been shipped and should arrive this week … just in time for my hair trial toward the end of the month. Yay!

Jewelry, dresses and dinner … oh my!

March 31, 2011

I have to leave Randy to his own devices as he finishes our cardbox or there’s  going to be a knockdown, drag out fight. 😉

I’ll simply take this opportunity to show you a potential necklace, flower girl jewelry and some other random updates.

As I mentioned before, I couldn’t decide on what kind of jewelry to wear. Since my dress is strapless, I feel like I need something more than a simple pendant. Thought I’d give this two-strand necklace from Alwaysabridesmade at try:

I really like it. In fact, I like it a lot. I didn’t think about one potential problem before ordering it … Constantly needing to rearrange or straighten the layers. What a pain in the butt that would be. I’ll have to mull it over.

I’m still waiting on my earrings, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they show up tomorrow.

As for the flower girls, I bought them necklaces and earrings at Claire’s:

I finally ordered their dresses as well:

Let’s see … What else?

I got the schedule for our hair and makeup today as well:

I also finalized our rehearsal dinner venue, menu and designed a simple invitation.

Whew! Sometimes this all seems surreal. I am, slowly but surely, getting more and more excited. 😀

March 30, 2011

Edit: I notice this post has been extremely popular during the last week. I neglected to mention where I purchased my present (bad blogger!), so here is the info … VirginiaGeigerJewels on Etsy. 😀

I gotz a prezent in the mail todayz!

*happy dance*

Can you guess what it is??

No? Good. Because I couldn’t either. At first I thought it was a piece of jewelry, but low and behold …

It’s my beautiful hair flower!!

I’m in love. I want to wear it everywhere. I even took it to work this afternoon to show it off. 😉

*swoon* 😀

Something special for my … dress

March 14, 2011

I bought myself a birthday/wedding present yesterday.

I guess it’s a present for my dress, too. 😉

I was going to post a picture, but they aren’t watermarked and there is copyright infringement language on her site that scares me so …… CLICK HERE to see what I ordered.

The LilaFrances hangers were featured in an issue of Martha Stewart Weddings when I first started planning. I found and bookmarked her Etsy site immediately, but I wanted to hold off until closer to the wedding to make a purchase.

As it turns out, I should have ordered when I first discovered her beautiful wire work. Her designs have become so popular she’s established a different website for some of them – and only puts 100 up for sale every Sunday. They often sell out in a matter of minutes. Also, since each piece is handmade, there is at least an 8-10 week wait before your item ships.

Crazy, huh?

The hanger will be personalized with our names (duh!), but there is only room for 14 characters – with a space counting as one.

“lindsay + randy” is 15 characters.

So, I opted for “linds + randy”

I’m very excited to see my dress hanging on it … and have it and pictures for keepsakes! 🙂
